No matter how high-end your computers,there is nothing quite like flaunting a TFT monitor on your desktop.A clear sign of being one of the few who are on the leading edge of the display evolution,your decision to go in for a TFT – be it a home or at office – will significantly upscale your image.However,until not too long ago it was practically unthinkable for the majority of computer shoppers to even consider one of these displays.As opposed to spending so much on them,the choice of spending extra was usually in favor of other system components like a faster processor,additional RAM or a better graphics card.The good old 15-inch CRT monitor was the mainstay in practically every home and office computer purchase.Until now,the ‘luxury’ of TFT monitor was reversed exclusively for the affluent home user or the CEO of the company.
Times,however have changed.Oevr the past year,we have seen a tremendous upheaval in TFT fabrication technologies,many of which have directly contributed to a drastic?An entry level 15-inch TFT monitor can be bought today for about $60-$70.At these price levels,we are now beginning to see TFT making their presence well within the realm of entry-level consumers.Most computer manufacturers are now beginning to configure their desktop ranges exclusively with TFT monitors.
With the advancements in manufacturing technology today,it actually makes more sense to create larger TFT panels as they turn out to be more economical to produce compared to their smaller counterparts.Due to this,the TFT monitor that strikes a great deal today is not the 15-inch variants but the 17-inch versions.Not just the price,even the technology driving these panels has seen drastic leaps-they deliver crisper colors,greater contrast ratios,increased brightness,higher resolutions,all translating into a superb viewing experience.One of the pet peeves in working with previous-generation TFT was the naggingly high pixel response time which often resulted in discernibleblurring and streaking during use.But all of that has changed – almost all TFT monitors today boast a pixel response time of under 8 milliseconds.This means you can play the most intense of games or watch the most exciting car chase movie sequences with no loss in video quality.More that just being a computer display,several TFT manufacturers even integrate TV tuners into their monitors making them devices around which all the family’s entertainment needs can be met.
TFT technology is also ushering in an era of high-definition video and television-with their support of increasing high resolutions,many of these devices are now HDTV-ready.Therefore,when you do finally decide to go in for that Blu-ray drive of high definition video signal later this year,you will certainly be ready for it on the display front.To further sweeten the deal,almost all TFT monitors above 19-inch boast the widescreen form factor,fitting right in for all you movie and gaming buffs out there.

It wasn’t until I bought my first GPS with Bluetooth, that I realized how dangerous it had been for me to drive and talk on my cell phone. Before I bought this device, I did a lot of research into which companies offered GPS’s with Bluetooth capability. In this article I’m going to share the fruits of my research with you, so you don’t have to spend all the time that I did.
Although, you don’t want to talk at all in heavy traffic, using a Bluetooth device for hands-free calling is certainly much easier on the brain and concentration than holding a cell phone with one hand and driving with the other. (And one of my cars is a straight shift! Imagine that!) Talking through a Bluetooth enabled device while driving is just like talking to a friend who’s actually in the car with you.
GPS systems with Bluetooth capability are easier for me to talk on than one of those “Dr. Spock” Bluetooth ear things. I guess this is a personal thing, but wearing one of those things bugs me more than having to hold a cell phone.
So, let’s get to it. What are the best GPS units with Bluetooth to buy?
Well, there are three main manufacturers of GPS receivers, Garmin, Tom Tom, and Magellan. Sure, there are other companies that makes GPS’s but personally I like to stay with the big players. That way I know my purchase of several hundred dollars is going to be supported in the future.
Garmin is by far the largest manufacturer of GPS receivers, and they have several models with Bluetooth capability. Garmin sells almost 70% of all GPS systems sold. They have an excellent product line, with models at many price points. I especially like the Garmin nuvi line. There are several nuvis that support Bluetooth, the 360,370 and up (all the way to the 880) all support Bluetooth.
The screen size of the 300 line is the smaller 3.5-inch screen. (Measured along the diagonal.) The 600′s and above all have 4.3-inch screens. And the newer nuvi 5000 has a huge 5.2-inch screen. Personally, I like bigger screens. They’re easier to see, and they don’t take up that much more real estate on my dashboard.
Right now, the 300 line sells for a little more than $200, while the 600′s are about $100 more–in other words, they sell in the $300′s.
Tom Tom is fast catching up with Garmin, by offering very competitive products at excellent prices. The Tom Tom Go line all have Bluetooth. The Go 510 sells for around $200, while the Go 920 runs around $350.
As far as Magellan, I really like their Maestro line. The Maestros are direct competitors with Garmin’s nuvi line and with all of Tom Tom’s products. There are two Maestros that have Bluetooth, the 3250 and the 4250. The only difference between these two models is screen size. The 4250 has the larger, 4.3-inch screen. Magellan has a great deal with AAA where they offer AAA’s Tour Book right on the GPS device! (I love AAA, so that was a real selling feature with me!)
Right now a 3250 is going to run you around $200 and a 4250 is about $50 more.
I’m not going to tell you which GPS with Bluetooth I finally decided to get. I think that would be unfair. I will say that I am very impressed with all three of these companies, especially with the models I’ve mentioned.
GPS with Bluetooth used to be a fairly expensive purchase, but no longer. Now, everyone can afford one! And believe me, they are great to have!

In the past, extending peripheral devices beyond the 5 meter distance barrier was very limited. The USB extender allows you to extend up to four USB 1.1 peripheral devices to 150 feet from the host computer. Composed of two separate units which connect to the host and peripherals via attached USB cables, the transmitter and receiver conversely connect to one another via Cat5 cable. These devices are simple to set up using plug and play technology and require no software or drivers to install.
In other configurations where running USB or Cat5 cables is inhibiting, the Wireless USB Extender comes into play. It uses wireless 802.11g radio to link the sender and the receiver units providing instant access to data with zero wires.
