The following article provides a guide on how to compare plasma LCD and rear projection HDTVs, including the differences between the technologies used in each.

Many people are confused by words in the electronic industry today such as “rear projection television”, “plasma”, and “LCD flat panel”. In order to understand exactly what you are buying when you purchase one of these items, you must first understand the underlying technology behind each one.

You must know whether wide screen televisions are better than regular flat screen televisions, and whether plasma screens are better LCD screens. The difference between LCD rear projection and flat panel sets is also important.

Before you purchase one of these electronic items, you should first understand exactly what their names mean so that you will not become confused by the salesman at your local electronics store. You will then be able to decide what is worth your money and what is not.

The following are several short introductions to each of these technologies used in modern televisions.

Rear Projection Television: These televisions involve a lamp behind a screen which projects an image onto the screen. This technology is also known as micro display, and is different from the more traditional CRT, or cathode ray tube, technology used in older televisions.

There are three different types of micro display – namely Liquid Crystal Display (LCD), Digital Light Processing (DLP), and Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LcoS). While televisions that use micro display technology are flatter and lighter than televisions that use CRT technology, the lamps in micro displays have to be changed once every two or three years.

Plasma Television: These televisions are almost always in the form of a flat panel, as they use technology that enables manufacturers to house the required electronics in a flatter panel.

A plasma television’s display works in much the same way as a fluorescent lamp, consisting of two glass panels containing xenon gas between them. The gas, in the form of plasma, is injected and then an electrical charge is run through, causing it to light up in reds, blues, and greens, thus creating an image. Each pixel consists of red, blue, and green phosphors.

Traditional CRT televisions, however, contain a vacuum tube, which emits an electric beam across the surface of the tube, lighting up the phosphors. Thus these displays are larger than the modern ones.

Liquid Crystal Display Televisions

LCD rear projecting systems are not the same as LCD flat panel televisions, as rear projection LCD televisions create an image by projecting light through a transparent LCD chip, which consists of individual pixels displaying the moving video images, thus projecting the image forward through a lens that magnifies the image, onto a mirror, which finally reflects the image onto the screen.

The chip used in a rear projection television is extremely small and thus is extremely light, taking up much less space than the cathode ray tubes in more traditional televisions.

While LCD rear projection televisions are not as compact as plasma or LCD flat panel televisions, they are still much smaller than conventional televisions. These televisions are also less expensive as compared to plasma and LCD flat panel televisions, and they also have wider screens. LCD rear projection systems also provide brighter images and greater contrast.

This short introduction to HDTV technology should be of some use to you if you wish to compare plasma LCD and rear projection HDTVs. You should compare aspect ratio, screen size, resolution, HDMI interface, and price when selecting a television. You should also make a comparison between similar television models from different brands, as they may be different.

Full range speakers are those speakers that cater for all frequencies in the audio spectrum in just a box. This box contains more than one driver — usually woofers that handle the lows and mids and then tweeters that handle the highs.

Some have more than two drivers and in this case, a driver can be dedicated to the lows, another to the midrange and the last (usually tweeters) handles the highs. Depending on the quality of the full range speakers, you can find signal processors called crossovers that help ensure that frequency bands go to speaker drivers made specifically to handle them.

Component speakers, on the other hand, are separate speaker boxes devoted to specific frequency bands. For example in a component speaker set up, a subwoofer handles the sub-bass notes and in that box you have a subwoofer and nothing else.

So which do you choose?

It depends…

Are you just looking to upgrade your factory-fitted speakers to something better without radically altering things (And of course, being milder to your purse)? Then, go for full range speakers.

Are you looking for the best in car audio, then you’d have to go for component speakers. And, do know that you pay for what you get. For example upgrading your speakers may necessitate installation of several amplifiers. Yes, even if you don’t intend to shake of the rafters of the moving van next to you. While you dry your vehicle regularly, you are quite familiar with the term ‘Fuse’. As the name suggests, this is a key part of your car or automobiles electronics system. A fuse is typically a small piece of equipment that is associated with the electronics system and is placed to blow out or fuse when something in the system goes wrong. This part is designed in such a way that it does not create a crisis when it blows out or fuses but will make something on the automobile no longer working. Although the part of your automobile to quit working will be relatively minor, like for instance, it can be the turn indicators, the radio, or even the interior lights. Whatever the condition, if a fuse blows, the device in question will no longer function.

If ever, you encounter, any malfunction in your vehicle the fuse is the first place to check. For most of us, locating the fuse box in the vehicle might be relatively easy, whereas, still some may have problem locating the error might be difficult. However, correcting the problem is relatively easy and you will get a feeling of satisfaction knowing you were able to troubleshoot on your own. We will certainly help to brush you up for the task in hand. Lets start with the automobile fuses. Generally, there are two type of fuses found in most of the automobiles. The first type of the fuse is a glass, cylinder-shaped with stainless steel on the ends and glass in the middle. The other type is a plastic housing with the fusible link encased in the housing. The fuse box is generally located behind a cover, under the dashboard, or below the steering wheel.

For checking the fuse by yourself you will need to take help from the user manual that accompanies your vehicle. The vehicles manual will help you to identify and position the fuse box a guide on how to access it. Check the cover, with most of the vehicles you can remove with your hand and with the rest follow what the user manual suggests. Once you find the fuse box carefully go through the owners manual to locate the exact fuse number, which might not be functional. For instance, if the turn indicators are not working find the fuse for it through the numerical chart.

When you are able to locate the exact fuse for the task, remove it as suggested in the owner’s manual. With most of the vehicles you can remove it with your hands. Take out the particular fuse and determine if it’s blown. If the metal coil inside the fuse is separated, the fuse is blown and no longer working and will need replacement. While you look for the replacement of the fuse, look exactly for the amperage rating as the blown fuse. Using a fuse with different amperage rating may risk either blowing the fuse again, or damaging the equipment the fuse is designed to protect. Once you lay your hands on the exact replacement, you can easily replace it back into the slot given. So identifying and replacing a blown fuse is relatively easy and can be done at home.
