Security/scanner is it safe to put an ipod on the belt for xray?

Husband wants to take ipod touch on plane with him to vegas. should he hand it to the security guard for hand inspection or is it alright for it to go into the machine thingy? i’ve been told that the machine can possibly damage these devices.

The scanner won’t hurt it or any other device. I travel a lot and have never had a problem.
