Battery chargers have multiple features. Some are quite helpful, while others are seen as unnecessary. You always want to make sure you have a battery charger with the necessary features you need. You need to know what features are absolutely important to you and those features that may not be as vital to your battery charger.

Most new chargers have an LCD screen that shows you detailed information about your batteries being charged. Older versions of battery chargers lacked this feature. Instead the older models have a red and green light indicating whether or not the batteries are done charging. The red light means the batteries are charging and the green light indicates that the batteries are finished charging and ready to use.

This is ok if that is all the information you require from your charger, but if you want more then you need a LCD display screen. LCD screens are an important feature for battery chargers as it displays the batteries current charge and the batteries potential after it has been charged. LCD screens tell the time remaining until the battery has been fully charged and when the battery is done charging. The LCD screen can display the charging current, time elapsed, terminal voltage, and accumulated capacities.

New battery chargers allow you to charge both AA and AAA batteries simultaneously with no negative effects. These are truly smart, technologically advanced chargers. Advanced chargers typically have four modes they can be put into, Charge, Discharge, Refresh, and Test mode. If you have old rechargeable batteries that need to be restored then the refresh mode is the way to go. The LCD screen provides in depth analysis of each of the four modes.

Many battery chargers are meant to be used on the go or while traveling. This means that you will need to check the voltage output and make sure it is compatible with where you want to use it. Some chargers include international converter plugs. This is quite handy if you plan on traveling outside of the country where the standard outlets are different.

There are different options when it comes to your power supply for the charger. Either you can have an external or an internal power supply. An internal power supply is more convenient as the plug is built into it and there are no unnecessary wires lying around. If you want to have your charger closer to you then an external power supply is the way to go. It comes with an extra plug, which allows you a few feet of wire. Also make note of the charger to see if it has an AC Adapter, a DC Adapter, or both. Remember that AC Adapters are for wall outlets, while DC Adapters are for car cigarette lighter adapters. Some battery chargers include both AC and DC Adapters, while some only include one or the other. Be sure to read the package to know exactly what you are getting with your battery charger.

All these features are not available in the newer models of battery chargers. This guide should have helped you pick out the features you are looking for in an AA and AAA battery charger. This is a simple guide that could go into much more depth in any of these topics, but I want to keep it simple for those not so technologically inclined.
