How can my ipod radio adapter work better?

I have a ipod radio adapter that sends a signal that my car’s radio can pick up. I can set the radio station but there is still static. If i hold my ipod the static stops for some reason…idk how it works or why it does it. How can i stop the static but not have to hold it all the time?
